We are still so thankful for the beautiful and vibrant land we came across in August 2012 for building our homestead. (If you are looking for rural land, you may find my article on the topic to be helpful.) Our 37.25 acres of undeveloped land is mostly wooded, with two small stretches of pasture—four or five acres total—along the south boundary, a gravel road. Since we didn’t want to clear trees and needed a location that would be amenable for passive solar heating, we recognized that these areas would be our best option. So began our project!
